| Founder Colette Bercu testifies before the Select Committee on Children and Youth concerning trafficking in Tennessee. On Thursday August 26, Colette along with Margie Quin of the TBI testified about trafficking in in State of Tennessee. The joint committee will be appointing a sub committee to study trafficking in Tennessee over the next year. This is a major victory in Tennessee as it is the next step in passing a stronger law in this State. |

Reaching Out, Romania
If you know our story, you know working with Reaching Out is where Free for Life began. In 2005, founder of Free for Life Colette Bercu had seen a television show where, to her horror, a girl was purchased on camera by undercover reporters in Romania. Her heart broke. Iana Matei had taken that young girl into the Reaching Out shelter once she was rescued, and Colette contacted her to see if she could somehow help. Over the past 3 years we have dedicated our lives to the fight against human trafficking, and to helping Reaching Out and Iana in any way we could. We have been so blessed to extend financing, prayer, and emotional support to Iana to help her continue running the shelter. We have been confident in knowing that the money Free for Life has been able to raise for them has not only gone to meet the needs of all of the girls in the shelter, but also for pressing operational expenses. Iana Matei writes: “For the last three years of commitment to support Reaching Out and to personally encourage me, thank you. For all the times when we encounter problems, when electricity was cut off, or the gas, when there were no money to pay bills, or wages, you stood by me, pray with me, gave me hope, and for that I thank you. I applaud you for your dedication, and I admire your sacrificial love." We are grateful God has given us the opportunity to have been a small part of the journey of restoration in the lives of these young women. Additionally, we have also been blessed to know Iana personally and call her friend. And So it is with a mixture of sadness and joy that we are writing this announcement to say Free for Life International will no longer be actively working with Iana Matei and Reaching Out Romania. One of the goals of Free for Life is to seek out additional partnerships to help meet the financial needs of the shelters we support. We have done it! Free for Life has found and connected such a donor with Reaching Out. The requirement for this new partnership is for an exclusive relationship. All ties with other funders are dissolved. This includes Free for Life International. On behalf of Free for Life we wish success for Reaching Out and pray God's most abundant blessing on their work. Please join with us as we celebrate this victory and have accomplished our mission of support with this shelter in Romania. With your generous participation we press forward to help meet the financial, emotional and spiritual needs of The Peace Rehabilitation Center in Nepal and Nicoya and Friends in Nicaragua. We are eager to discover new opportunities that may arise with other shelters around the world that are struggling even now as Reaching Out was, to keep their doors open. This is how we began, and this is how we will continue as we grow. Let us not grow weary in this fight against slavery.
